On the Publin research project

Child doctorPublin has been a research project under the EU Fifth Framework Programme.

Publin has studied policy learning and technical and administrative innovation in the public sector, and tried to get a better understanding of behavioural changes, learning processes and the implementation of new or improved technologies in public organisations.

The study covers innovation in policy-making organisations, regulatory agencies and public enterprises, and takse into consideration the influence cultural traits, politics, management, networks and co-operation, entrepreneurship and evaluations has on innovation.

The Publin summary report is ready

The final summary report of Publin has been finalized and is ready to download.

This is a policy-oriented non-academic presentation of Publin and its findings and includes concrete policy recommendations.

Publin conference papers presented in Irish journal

The latest issue of the Journal of the Institute of Public Administration of Ireland includes several of the papers presented at the PUBLIN/Universisty College Cork conference on innovation in the public sector.

Among the papers included are an article by Irish Publin coordinator Séamus Ó Tuama on "Respect and Dingity: essential guides to successful public sector innovation", a paper on NHS Direct by Cunningham, Grant-Pearce, Green, Rigby and Uyarra from the UK PREST team, a discussion of entrepreneurship in innovation of home based care for the elderly in Norway by Godø, Broch and Røste, and a study of Irish home help by Buckley and Linehan.

New issue of the Publin Post newsletter out now

A new issue of the Pandia Post, the newsletter of the EU project on innovation in the public sector, is out now.

This issue presents policy recommendations based on the Publin findings.

The newsletter can be downloaded in Acrobat PDF format.

The Publin policy workshop on innovation in the public sector

The EU Publin research project invited policy makers and others involved in public sector innovation policy development to a workshop in Brussels on December 2 2005.

At the workshop Publin researchers presented some of the major findings from the research project. Moreover, policy makers was invited to share their experiences from public innovation processes. The overall objective of the workshop was to discuss concrete policy strategies aimed at strengthening public sector innovation.

Book Announcement: Innovation in Public Services: Management, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship

In March 2006 Edward Elgar will be publishing a book based on material developed in the PUBLIN project. The PUBLIN project is a three year EU-funded research on innovation in public sector services.

Contributions to the book have been written by leading European scholars on innovation in public sector services.

The Publin Conference on Innovation in the Public Sector is over

We are proud to announce that the conference Breaking New Ground, on Innovation in the Public Sector, jointly hosted by the Publin Consortium and the Department of Government at the University College Cork was a sucess.

The conference was aimed at exploring both theoretical and practical aspects of public sector innovation. It drew on the experience of high level public servants, academics and researchers, including the Publin Consortium which has investigated public sector innovation in nine countries.
